From now on, you may visit the Ardenne region in German, English, French or Dutch!

For more than two years, I have been working with the tourism destination #VisitArdenne (the three country-region between Belgium, Luxemburg and France) in order to deliver a professional homepage for its international audience. The German edition www.visitardenne.com/de is now finally online (and so are the Dutch and English versions of the homepage), so you may navigate the area from the comfort of your home already. All these fairy-tale like forests, their huge castles and medieval fortresses, as well as the delicious local food and drinks, are well worth the journey.

In July 2018, I have been there myself on a short research trip through the Ardennes region. Not only to acquaint myself with the language, of course, and the later translation contract from French into German, but also to meet the local tourism partners, learn about their way of life and all the opportunities for visitors to explore the area.

Among others, I have visited the town of Dinant (famous for its towering medieval fortress high above the river and old town), the Abbey of Orval near the French-Belgian border (they brew excellent beer there!), the “ville fleurie” Bouillon generously decorated with flowers, the small town “Roche Haut” (meaning “High Rock”, which is true for its superb vantage point), the town Bastogne famous for its war memorial and museum, or the largest medieval fortress of Europe, Sedan Castle in the French Ardennes.

It is absolutely mind-blowing, the amount of things there is to see and do!

I’m hoping to travel there soon again together with my husband and son, as there are also many family-friendly activities on offer. Meanwhile, have a go at visiting their multilingual website and dare to become enchanted by the Ardennes yourself!
