The Baltic Sea is just beautiful. From the car-free island Hiddensee in the West to the Hanseatic city Wismar in the East, I can only repeat myself saying: Just beautiful. Maybe it has been the magic of spring, travelling here in May? My team of young travel blogging companions Emilie Lukman, Daniela Lorenzo, Maximo Perez, Andreas Thamm and Juli Zucker are just the same: Happy, excited, carrying a smile on their lips, always on the lookout for what the Kreativsaison Mecklenburg is offering for young people as the so-called #balticdiscovery: An exciting array of creative “infotainment” coupled with magic moments meeting the local people here in the “high north” of Germany. In this first article here, I am going to tell you more about exploring the cities of Wismar & Neubukow, where you should definitely head to one day, including Café Glücklich and the discoverer of Troy. At the Filmbüro MV (Mecklenburg Vorpommern), our team of young journalists is invited to stay on the premises’ youth hostel offering a project space and training ground for young students and video journalists. We are greeted by a wonderful spring morning to start our travel adventures in Wismar!
First get-together: The #Balticdiscovery team is invited to the studio of the young graphic artist Patrieck Schmidt in Wismar – celebrating with food & drinks right by the university buildings of Wismar.
After our first meet & greet with local artist Patrieck Schmidt, we set out to explore the World Heritage City Wismar: A pretty gem of a town situated right on the Baltic Sea Coast in northern Germany.
“Schwein gehabt” (being lucky): Exploring Wismar means marvelling at the many beautiful facades of local houses and mansions in the old town.
HAPPINESS is what is being shared at “Café Glücklich” (Cafe of Happiness): Mrs “Glücklich” offers us cookies and a large, “HAPPY” breakfast buffet that we LIKE. Definitely not to be missed! 🙂
Chill-out session in the old city of Wismar: Even the women statues do so. After climbing the historic church tower and learning about its construction in a really cool 3D movie, we move over the port for a nice stroll around the old town.
This cute little house can be found about twenty minutes’ drive from Wismar, in a small town called Neubukow known to be the “Schliermann Mekka”: It is here where the famous adventurer Hans Schliermann was born who after countless archaeological expeditions finally managed to uncover the legendary city of Troy.
Everybody here in Neubukow is very friendly indeed. 🙂 As part of a guided tour, we are even being hosted by an international team of interpreters for all of us bloggers and journalists. Beautiful!
